hit

The term hit is an access of your Web site. There are a great variety of definitions of what a "hit" is. The most popular definitions are:
  1. Every person that accesses your site for a continuous period of time, regardless of how many files or bytes transferred, is one hit.
  2. Every page that is transferred is one hit.
  3. Every file (pages, graphics, etc.) is one hit. Before doing business with an internet presense provider who charges by the hit, it is crucial that you understand their policy for hit charges.

At WebShed.com, we do not use the "hit" as a measurement of web traffic because it does not indicate the load that the web site places on the internet server. Furthermore, it is only a vague indicator of the web sites popularity, since many sites inherently send more files, contain more graphics, etc. For more information, see our Rates and Services page.
